Coaching Bio

Story has been teaching climbing since 2018, and they’re not just into rock climbing—they’re also experienced in instructing mountain biking, kayaking, backpacking, and skateboarding. With a background in multiple outdoor sports, Story brings a unique, well-rounded approach to climbing coaching. As an indoor rock climbing coach, they’ve created recurring climbing clubs at gyms across California, helping climbers of all levels build lasting skills and reach new heights. Recently, Story launched the Youth Climbing Clubs at Benchmark Berkeley, fueling the next generation of climbers.

Story thrives on helping climbers who are getting ready to break through that tricky learning curve and push into the intermediate and advanced levels. Whether it’s building strength, improving precision, developing endurance, or refining technique, Story is passionate about helping you hone the finer details of your climbing journey.

What is your coaching philosophy?

Climbing is a beautiful mix of technique, strength, mental focus, and patience—and I’m here to help you take it to the next level. My coaching approach breaks down the complex into manageable, so you can progress steadily and confidently. We'll focus on skill development, strength conditioning, and understanding how your body and mind interact with the challenges of climbing. Plus, having navigated climbing injuries myself, I place a strong emphasis on injury prevention and recovery.

What can clients expect?

In our sessions, we’ll kick things off by assessing your current skills and setting personalized short and long-term goals. From there, we’ll dive into technique, using drills, video analysis, and targeted strength training to fine-tune your climbing. We’ll also work on mental strategies and climbing efficiency to make sure you’re tackling those next-level routes with confidence. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or just ready to elevate your climbing, I’ll help you stay on track with a plan that works for your unique needs and goals.

$65 for 1 hr session*

Barrier Breaker members receive 20% off above pricing!!

*Please note that non-Benchmark members must also purchase a $15 discounted day pass to access the facility. Day passes can be purchased at the front desk the day of your session. A $25 deposit is required to reserve your session. This deposit is non-refundable, but transferable to another date if they’d like to reschedule. Clients who cancel within 24 hours will be billed the full amount for the session.
